Something more valuable

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - CMPD is looking for a pair of crooks who didn't steal money. They took something they consider more valuable.

Across the street from the Johnson C Smith University campus, sits this Boost Mobile store. It's aptly named, because mobile phones got boosted at 5:00PM by two men.

On surveillance, one came into the store wearing an animal print shirt. He waited for his partner to arrive, then suddenly, the first man pulls out a handgun.

"When they got inside, they didn't take any money, they took cell phones," said CMPD Detective Marty Cuthbertson.

They did it by using their feet. The second man wearing a checked shirt, kicks and kicks and kicks the display case, until the top pops open.

He's got a backpack with him and starts filling it up with stolen phones.

"It's a hot commodity, everybody wants a cell phone. Got to have it. Probably can sell them on the street for little or nothing, because they paid nothing for them, so if they make a dollar, they made money."

During the robbery, the clerk pleads for them to stop. The gunman responds by raising his weapon several times. And we can see he had a red bandana wrapped around the gun handle.

"Not only did they take cell phones from the business, they took cell phones from the property owner, they took his cell phone as well."

As an insult to the injury, the clerk was forced to hand over his personal cell phone.

"They left from here and somebody actually saw them down the block or two, get into a vehicle and drive off."

That vehicle was an older model light green Geo seen leaving on Flint Street.
