(RNN) – People who pray before a meal are usually not looking for acknowledgement or reward, but Mary's Gourmet Diner in Winston-Salem, NC offers one anyway.
Diners who are observed praying can receive a 15 percent “praying in public” discount on their meal. A photo of a receipt from the restaurant recently went viral on the Facebook page belonging to Z88.3, a Christian radio station located in Orlando, FL.
The post has nearly 10,000 likes, thousands of shares and hundreds of comments, many of them positive, about the restaurant's practice of rewarding its prayerful diners.
The manager of Mary's Gourmet Diner, Mary Haglund, said in an interview with FoxNews.com that the discount was not advertised and not an internet hoax. Patrons are not told about the discount beforehand.
“It's not a policy, and we do it very randomly,” Haglund said.
Haglund also said the discount wasn't “a religious thing.”
“It's about the whole idea of gratitude ... it's a spiritual thing.”
