ASHEBORO, N.C. -

For the first time since October 2006, a lion has given birth at the North Carolina Zoo.

According to the Zoo's website, a female lion named Mekita and male lion named Reilly welcomed four cubs on July 30.

Mekita and her cubs are doing well, but they will not be on exhibit until the fall. The cubs will be at the North Carolina Zoo for the next year.

Although the cubs won't be on exhibit until the fall, you can watch video of Mekita and her cubs here.

Saturday, Aug. 9 is World Lion Day at the N.C. Zoo.
