Deputies ID motorcycle driver killed in collision in Harrisburg

Deputies have identified a man that was killed in an early morning motorcycle accident in Cabaruss County.

The wreck happened along Morehead Road in Harrisburg around 2:41 a.m. Wednesday morning. This is near Plaza Drive.

Officials say a man, later identified as Kyle Landon Dean of Harrisburg, was riding a motorcycle heading south on Morehead when a Dodge Ram truck pulling a home-built trailer pulled out of a driveway in front of Dean, causing the motorcycle to collide with the rear of the trailer.

Dean was killed in the accident. The driver of the truck, Brandon David Reese, and his passenger, Dayton Louis Kolczak, were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

WBTV talked to Dayton Kolczak on Thursday. He said he was very sorry that the incident happened.

"My heart goes out to the family. He [Dean] was a young guy, and no one deserves that."

Kolczak also said that he believes the investigation will show that speed was a factor, and that the driver of the truck was not at fault.

"When we left the driveway, we both looked both ways," he said, "But when we got on the road, I saw the bike in the mirror, and immediately said 'It's a motorcycle - he's coming up quick."

He said that's when the motorcycle struck the trailer.

A section of Morehead Road was closed as deputies investigated the crash.

Deputies say the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and that no charges had been filed as of Thursday afternoon.
