Wet morning gives way to cooler temps, wet weekend ahead

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Heavy rain overnight and early Friday morning will slowly taper off as it shifts north by midday. But the wet start coupled with extensive cloud cover will likely hold down temperatures Friday.

WBTV meteorologist Al Conklin says afternoon temperatures are like only going to be in the 70s, more than 10° below average for mid-summer!

"Storm chances remain relatively high - especially during the afternoon hours both days this weekend," Conklin predicts. "But more breaks of sunshine should send highs back into the low 80s.

After the wet weekend, Conklin says temperatures will be back on the rise.

"The pattern shifts to one more typical for early August next week, as highs are expected to rebound into the upper 80s to near 90."
