SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Hours after the announcement of the arrest of Casey and Sandy Parsons on Wednesday morning, Rowan County Sheriff Kevin Auten announced an increase in the reward for information in the disappearance and whereabouts of Erica Parsons.
The sheriff also addressed the issue of the press conference that was called off on Tuesday.
"At present, there is no planned media briefing to be conducted by the Sheriff's Office," said Sheriff Auten. "I would like to emphasize that this was an important step, in the ongoing investigation, of the missing persons case of Erica Parsons, however the search for Erica goes on. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office along with our partners, the NC SBI, and the FBI continue the investigation to locate Erica."
"We are proud to announce that there is additional award money being put forth for information leading to the location of Erica Parsons," Auten added. "Prevent Child Abuse Rowan, a local advocacy group, has put forth $5000 to be added to the outstanding award for Erica's return, and the Rowan County Sheriff's Office is also adding an additional $10,000, to add to the original $10,000 that the Rowan County Sheriff's Office had already put forth. With these award additions, the total award for information leading to the location of Erica now stands at $50,000. (Amounts offered: $25,000 from FBI, $20,000 from the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, $5000 from Prevent Child Abuse Rowan)."
"It should be apparent that the events that have taken place today led to the decision to cancel the media briefing scheduled for yesterday, at 2pm," Auten added. "We would like to thank those media outlets that chose to report these ongoing developments in a professional manner, and urge all outlets to make notification of the award amount that is now $50,000."
