Investigators increase reward in Erica Parsons case

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A year after a Rowan County teenager was reported missing by her brother, investigators say the reward for information has been increased.

Wednesday afternoon the Rowan County Sheriff's Office announced that the reward has been bumped to $50,000 combined from three different agencies.

Erica Parsons was reported missing on July 30, 2013 by her adoptive brother who said the family had not seen Erica since November 2011. She was 13-years-old when she was last seen.

Erica's adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, have been in the national spotlight since her disappearance was reported. They have repeatedly claimed that Erica went to visit her biological grandmother, a woman the family calls "Nan."

Police say facts in Casey and Sandy Parsons' story about "Nan" don't add up and Erica's biological grandmother died several years before Erica went missing.

Casey and Sandy were arrested on Wednesday, one year after Erica was reported missing, on dozens of federal fraud-related charges.  They were later granted a $25,000 bond and court-appointed attorneys.

"Sheriff Auten would like to emphasize that this was an important step, in the ongoing investigation," the Rowan County Sheriff's Office told WBTV.  "However the search for Erica goes on. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office along with our partners, the NC SBI, and the FBI continue the investigation to locate Erica."

The sheriff's office says Prevent Child Abuse Rowan, a local advocacy group, has put forth $5,000 to be added to the outstanding award for Erica's return.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office also added an additional $10,000, to match the initial $10,000 it had already put forth.  The FBI had already pledged $25,000 for information.

Anyone with information as to the location of Erica Parsons should contact the Rowan County Sheriff's Office for 1st. Lt. Chad Moose (704-216-8687) or Investigator Sara Benfield ( 704-216-8739).
