LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The name of a 22-year-old University of Louisville student who was found dead in an off-campus apartment Monday has been released.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Officer identified the student as Danielle "Dani" Cogswell, UofL spokesman Mark Hebert said during a press conference held on the university’s campus at 8:15 p.m.

Cogswell was a transfer student from Arizona State University and had attended UofL for one year. UofL Associate Athletic Director for Student Life Christine Simatacolos said Cogswell was one of their elite cheerleaders and was a flyer for the UofL co-ed cheerleading squad. During her time at UofL she was a resident of Cardinal Towne, an off-campus, privately owned student housing complex affiliated with the university, according to Hebert.

The Louisville Metro Police Department has launched a death investigation concerning her death. Hebert said the university and Cardinal Towne management are cooperating with the investigation.

UofL is providing counseling services to students and staff who knew Cogswell.

The cause of her death has not been released.
