Two charged in car break-ins, and for stealing puppies

Atwell Atwell
SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

Two teens have been charged with multiple break-ins in the south Rowan area, and one of the cases involves puppies being stolen.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office began investigating several vehicle break-ins in the area around China Grove, Landis, and Enochville.

Investigators say they were able to identify Darryl L. Atwell, and Christopher A. Huffman, both 17, as suspects in the crimes that date back several months.

As the investigation progressed both suspects were arrested, and during a search investigators discovered stolen property from several area car break-ins, and also property from  larcenies that occurred inside the town of China Grove.

Recovered stolen property is still being examined and many property owners have been contacted by Sheriff's Detectives or will be.

Two Labrador Retrievers were listed among the items stolen.

Both Atwell and Huffman remain in the Rowan County Jail under a $55,000 secured bond.

Here's a revolutionary thought: The Carolina Panthers should invest in their secondary. And not with mid- to late-round picks or development projects, either. On April 26, the first night of the 2018 NFL Draft, Carolina should take a defensive back at No. 24. A day-one starter. A leader.
