A Rowan County man is facing charges after police say he was involved in a fight at a softball game after someone mocked his daughter's cancer.
According to a report, James Roberts was charged by police for simple assault.
Police say Roberts' teen daughter was taking part in a softball tournament on Saturday afternoon when a player on another team made a comment about her and her cancer.
The incident happened at the Salisbury Community Park along Hurley School Road around 4:45 pm.
Roberts, who also has cancer, became upset and began arguing with the team's coach, Carter York. Police say the incident escalated and Roberts punched York in the nose.
Police say Roberts was then punched in the back of the head by someone, but he doesn't know who.
Roberts was reportedly charged with misdemeanor simple assault and released on written promise to appear before a judge.
The weekend of coed softball tournament was held to raise funds for Hannah Roberts, a 13-year-old who has been fighting breast cancer.
