CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) -

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Caroling Beach Friday night.

According to Carolina Beach Police Chief Ken Hinkle, the accident happened in the 1400 block of South Lake Park Boulevard near the intersection of Ocean Boulevard.

Hinkle said Arthur W. Shaffer was hit by a 1998 Chevy van while crossing the road near the Pelican Watch Hotel.

Shaffer was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident, Jon Lindquist, was not charged in the case since Shaffer was not in the crosswalk.

The Town of Carolina Beach's prayers and thoughts are with the  Shaffer family.
