Hello everyone, this is Paul Cameron in the WBTV Newsroom on a very eventful night.
The verdict is in and Panthers star Greg Hardy is guilty of domestic violence against his former girlfriend. Hardy's attorney immediately appealed the bench ruling, opting for a jury trial. Shockingly, Judge Becky Tin gave Hardy 60 days in jail suspended and 18 months of probation. The real question is what will the NFL and/or the Panthers do next as Hardy awaits a new jury trial date?
Severe storms cause floods and heavy lightning, mainly in the Matthews and Mint Hill areas tonight. Eric Thomas is watching what seems to be a persistent front that is lingering far too long.
There's a new District Attorney in the foothills. David Learner upset incumbent Jay Gaither by a wide margin in tonight's runoff election. Gaither had been plagued by bad publicity, including a last-minute lawsuit for harassment filed by a former co-worker.
And Happy Anniversary to WBTV-- 65 years on the air serving the Carolinas. We thank our viewers for their loyal support.
