DENVER (KUSA/CNN) – Dozens of American students are safely back home in Colorado after facing the threat of escalating Middle East violence on a trip to Israel.
The group returned to Denver International Airport on Sunday, and into the arms of their families.
They were on a five-week tour to study Jewish heritage when things got dangerous.
One parent says the kids got to see what people in Israel deal with every day.
"I think our kids are under this false sense of security in America and they think everybody's privileged and everybody can do and come and go as they want - and I think for our children to have that connection to Israel, which is why we sent them in the first place, I think that's part of the connection to understand how people live," one parent said.
Group leaders changed the itinerary several times in order to avoid ongoing missile strikes.
U.S. and international calls for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas have failed to gain traction.
