Man shot, killed after argument in Rowan County

An argument between two men in Rowan County ended in gunfire Sunday afternoon and left one man dead.

Authorities charged 22-year-old Destin Sloan with murder after Kerry Gray, 39, was shot multiple times in the driveway of Sloan's home.

Neighbors called police just after 1 p.m. and reported the incident on Maria Lane near Needmore Road. Sloan was still on the scene when police arrived.

Police say a search of Sloan's residence turned up 16 grams of crack cocaine, approximately $1000 in US currency, and a rifle. Investigators say they also seized 2 handguns from his car, a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis.

Sloan is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond. He is charged with murder, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, & deliver a schedule II controlled substance, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell, & deliver a schedule IV controlled substance.
