Domestic dispute could be reason for house fire

Friday morning, crews responded to a house fire off Hollis Road in Ellenboro that didn't appear to be accidental.

The home was destroyed by the fire and there is little to recover from the rubble.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, they questioned Billy James Atchley Friday afternoon, after he turned himself into deputies.

At this time, no charges have been filed.

Investigators believe the possible arson stems from a domestic situation involving Atchley, a woman, and the man who owns the Ellenboro house.

Investigators tell WBTV the argument may have started on the highway with the woman and Atchley.

Detectives are in the process of securing warrants against Atchley for Assault with Deadly Weapon and Communicating Threats. Arson charges are expected as well.

The situation turned out better than investigators had expected.

Initially, there was speculation of gun fire after officials responded to a "shots fired" call.

As officials began investigating, they decided the gun shot noises may just have been flammable items in the home catching fire.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
