When it comes to motocross, few do it as well as 14-year-old Noah Skinner.
But that wasn’t always the case for the Bunn native.
Skinner said the sport did appeal to him at first.
“I didn't like the noise it made and I was intimidated by it,” Skinner said. “So, it took forever for me to get on it and then I finally got on it and I couldn't get off."
Skinner tried other sports including hockey but he kept going back to motocross.
It appears he made the right choice. Skinner is one of the top dirt bike performers in the nation and later this month, he'll head to Tennessee for the amateur nationals.
Mark Czysz of North Carolina Motorcross Park said Skinner will face a tough challenge in Tennessee.
“The fastest motocrossers are right here in the U.S. and that goes for the amateur ranks and the pros. So rest assured when he's on the line he'll be racing against the 39 other fastest kids in that class," Czysz said.
A solid performance in Tennessee could bring Skinner’s future into focus.
“Everybody wants to turn pro, everybody wants to be the next big guy and I'll go as far as it lets me,” Skinner said.
