JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The four-star Air Force general in charge of cargo, personnel, refueling and medical evacuation flights for U.S. forces around the globe is scheduled to visit Joint Base Charleston.

Gen. Darren McDew took charge of the Air Mobility Command in May. His two-day visit beginning Wednesday includes meeting with military men and women, families, Department of Defense civilian employees, contractors and local leaders.

McDew is responsible for the 130,000 active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and DOD civilian employees in the command located at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

The visit is also a homecoming for McDew, who commanded the 14th Airlift Squadron at Charleston from 1997 to 1998.
