LANCASTER, SC (WBTV) -

A toddler is in critical condition at the hospital after being trapped in a vehicle, according to deputies in Lancaster.

The incident happened on Wednesday around 1:15 p.m. at a home on Walnut Road.

Deputies say the three-year-old boy's mother found him in the car and called 911.

Investigators said that it appeared the boy left the home without his mother's knowledge and was playing in the car with his dog when he became trapped inside.

The boy, who officials say suffered from heat stroke, was taken to an area hospital where he was still in critical condition Thursday afternoon.

The boy's name has not been released, and no charges have been filed.
