RHPD: Vandals damage local HS football Fields

Police in Rock Hill are looking for vandals they say did thousands of dollars worth of destruction to practice football fields at a local high school.

Students who have to use those practice fields are speaking out.

"It was childish and it was pointless," said South Pointe High School student Shakurius Woodard.

This childish prank could land someone in grown-up trouble.

When an employee got to South Pointe High School early Monday morning they discovered someone had driven over 20 small trees and did doughnuts on the school's practice football fields, causing ruts and divots.

"I think it was very stupid because we still have to practice up here, which keeps us being not able to go on this field. Now we have to use the soccer felid," said student Melvin Crawford.

"They shouldn't have done that because now we can't practice on it on and we love practicing on that field," said student Cameron Crawford.

Police don't have any suspects at this time, but collected a Bud Light beer box and can, which they've placed into evidence.

Officials believe the vandals entered the stadium area through a gas line in some nearby woods.

The damage is estimated to be around $4,000.

These students now have a message for the vandals, if they're out there listening.

"Stop being childish, that's what I would say," said Crawford.

Police tell WBTV there are security cameras around campus. Investigators are hoping the video will help them identify the culprits.

Officials say if you have any information in this case, you are asked to call the Rock Hill Police Department.
