Detectives in Charlotte are asking for the public's assistance in locating a driver that they say hit an eight-year-old boy with a vehicle then took off.

The hit-and-run happened on Monday at 5:47 p.m., on the 6200 block of Idlebrook Drive.

Police say the boy was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle. That vehicle left the scene without stopping, and was last seen traveling southwest on Idlebrook Drive.

Medic responded to the scene and took the child to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.
