Man fatally shot in drug-related shooting, police say

Police in Charlotte say one man is dead in a drug-related shooting Sunday night.

The incident was reported around 10:11 p.m. on the 2100 block of Lincoln Heights Court, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officers arrived and found 38-year-old Anthony Antoine Byers suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken by medics to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His sister arrived at the house soon after the shooting and saw emergency crews working on her brother.

"I was like Lord," Victim's sister Tameka Byers said. "Please don't take my brother."

The sister says he brother was a good man and loved his four children.

"It's senseless," the sister said. "It don't make sense. People need to stop the killing. They took my brother for no reason. He didn't deserve this."

Police say that Byers and the shooter possibly knew one another and that the shooting is drug related.  Family members disagree.

"He doesn't bother nobody," Byers said.  "And it was wrong and whoever did it, you will pay."

Charlotte Meckleburg police say so far this year there have been 19 homicides. Last year this time there were 21 homicides.  Police are looking for killer while Antoine Byers daughter will remember the words her father told her.

"You are going to make something out of yourself," Victim's daughter Emya Brooks said. "Just going to keep that and make sure I do good."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
