Angelo Grayson Smith Jr's neighbor is telling his story for the first time about his encounter with missing teacher Bianca Tanner's boyfriend.

The neighbor, who doesn't want to be identified, says he hardly knew Smith, but says they did speak when they saw each other.

"Very friendly," the neighbor said. "Just 'Hi, How are you doing? Have a good day.'"

The neighbor remembers what he heard the night Tanner went missing.

"I heard them arguing," the neighbor said. "It didn't last very long and two weeks prior to that, I heard them arguing. It went on a good five to ten minutes."

He said he could not figure out what the two were saying.

"I just heard voices yelling," the neighbor said. "I was asleep and it did wake me up."

The neighbor already told his story to police, and hopes that Smith does the same now that he's in custody. He wants Tanner to be found safe.

He also remembers days after Tanner disappeared, he noticed Smith leaving town.  He says this happened days after Tanner was reported missing and after Smith talked to police for several hours.

"That morning," he said. "Some other people were with him. He was in a dark four-door car with Virginia license plates. I did see them loading some things up from his apartment and that was the last time I seen him, last Monday or Tuesday."

Smith's lawyer, Kenneth Snow, said his client left town because of threats and he was a free man. He says Smith was not aware of the arrest warrant for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

"Obviously he is a man who is concerned about what happened," Smith lawyer Kenneth D. Snow said. "He is troubled, obviously worried because he is being questioned,  painted in the media negatively and he has a loved one who is missing."

While police continue to search for Bianca Tanner, the neighbor wonders what might have happened if he acted on what he heard.

"In hindsight," the neighbor said, "I wish maybe I could have done something from the first argument. That does not give me a good feeling at all."

There is a $5,000 reward for any information that could lead to the whereabouts of Bianca Tanner.

Tanner's ex-husband issued the following statement Friday night:

"Jared and I miss her and we are ready for her to come home. We look at pictures and watch videos. It's been a trying and emotional two weeks. We love Bianca tremendously and just want her home!"
