INDIAN TRAIL, NC (WBTV) -

A trailer the nonprofit Carolina Waterfowl Rescue uses to transport the birds it cares for was stolen this week, the group said on Friday.

The trailer, valued at $1,500, was discovered stolen Thursday morning and was last seen by volunteers Wednesday evening, Director Jennifer Gordon said in a news release.

The nonprofit uses the trailer several times a week to transport rehabilitated birds to release sites and injured birds to the rescue, she said.

An online donation campaign to replace the trailer has been set-up as the rescue's insurance deductible won't allow for replacement of the trailer.

Anyone with information about this theft should call the Union County Sheriff's Office at 704-283-3789.

If you would like to help the group replace the trailer call them at 704-668-9486.
