Stormy weekend in the forecast, heavy downpours a possibility

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

After a promised – rare - quiet day around the WBTV viewing area Thursday, the humidity is up again and rain chances are on the rise as well, says WBTV Meteorologist Al Conklin.

Between a weak area of low pressure loitering along the South Carolina coast and high pressure up over New England, a persistent onshore flow of air will keep cloud cover and rain chances high right through the weekend.

Several heavy downpours are anticipated, especially during the afternoon and evening hours, so outdoor plans may have to be adjusted.

With rain showers around, very high humidly is expected right through the weekend with highs in the 80s and lows close to 70 degrees.

Looking ahead, a more typical pattern for early July kicks back in next week with more sunshine, highs closer to 90 degrees and just isolated late day thunderstorms.
