Three Matthews teens charged in violent home break-in, deputies say

MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

Five people were arrested earlier this week after investigators say they broke into a home and held three people at gunpoint while they robbed the home.

The break-in and robbery were reported at a home in Indian Trail late in the evening on June 5, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say three men were in the home at the time when three men, two armed with assault rifles, came in the back door.

They held the men at gunpoint while the other ransacked the home.

The suspects made off with a safe containing a sum of money, collectible coins and several other items, according to investigators.

Deputies have charged three Matthews teens and a 20-year-old from Columbia for the armed robbery/

A 34-year-old was charged with planning the crime.

Most of the stolen items were recovered.

Charged were:

Nicholas Andrew Upton, 17, of Matthews, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree burglary, safecracking and felony conspiracy.

Cameron Thomas White, 18, of Matthews, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree burglary, safecracking and felony conspiracy.

Zane Austin Cassell, 18, of Matthews, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree burglary, safecracking and felony conspiracy.

Alexander Paul Saint Clair, 20, of West Columbia, SC, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree burglary, safecracking and felony conspiracy.

Ronald Dean Foster Jr., 34, of Matthews, is charged with solicitation to commit a felony and felony possession of stolen goods.

    The remains of a Rowan County soldier who vanished during World War II have been found and are being brought home this week for burial in his hometown of Gold Hill, 60 miles northeast of Charlotte.
