CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A Clover man is behind bars after police say he hit and killed a man on a bicycle late Sunday night and drove home before he called 911.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, 46-year-old Vung Vu was riding a bicycle along the 10500-block of South Tryon Street late Sunday night when he was hit by a 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

Vu struck the windshield of the Jeep before being thrown to the ground, police say.

The driver of the vehicle, 39-year-old Jonathan Henry Shaver, did not stop after the crash and drove to his home in Clover before calling 911, police say.

Shaver then returned to the scene with the Clover Police. He was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, hit and run, driving while impaired, registration and insurance violations.

According to police, Vu is also suspected of having been drinking alcohol.

This crash is being investigated by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departments Major Crash Investigations Unit. Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Detective Steve Williams at 704-336-8862.
