Massachusetts Gov. set to approve $11 minimum wage

BOSTON (CNN) – The commonwealth of Massachusetts is on track to have the highest state minimum wage in the nation.

Lawmakers in the Bay State gave final approval Thursday to legislation that will gradually raise the minimum wage to $11 an hour by 2017, that's up from $8.

A spokeswoman for Governor Deval Patrick said he got the bill Thursday evening, and is expected to sign it into law.

President Barack Obama, who supports a nationwide increase to $10.10 an hour, applauded the move.

White Massachusetts is taking the lead among states, the city of Seattle will still offer the highest minimum wage anywhere in the country.

Seattle recently approved an increase to $15 an hour.
