Report: Woman arrested after high-speed chase with 3 children in car

A Cary woman was arrested in Anson County after she led deputies on a two-county high-speed chase with three young children in the car, according to a report from the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Lavett Dianne Saddler, 37, was arrested and charged with three counts each of misdemeanor child abuse and failing to stop at a stop light, and one count each of felony speeding to elude arrest, speeding, and careless and reckless driving.

The incident began early Wednesday morning when a Union County deputy running radar on Highway 74 near Rocky River Road saw Saddler's 2007 Chevy Tahoe traveling at a high rate of speed.

The deputy attempted to stop the Tahoe, but ended up being led on a 23-mile chase from Union County into Anson County.

According to the report, the chase reached speeds between 73 and 90 miles per hour.

Monroe Police, NC troopers, and Anson County deputies all tried to lend a hand in the getting the Tahoe stopped, officials said.

Deputies eventually used Stop Sticks to deflate the tires on the Tahoe, ending the chase at Anson High School Road.

Saddler was arrested and her three children, an eight-year-old, a three-year-old and a seven-week-old, were turned over to the custody of the Anson County Department of Social Services.

Saddler was taken to the Union County Jail and placed under a $50,000 bond.
