New tax for teacher pay?

Hello everyone this is Paul Cameron in the WBTV Newsroom. Tonight Mecklenburg County has decided to ask voters if they'll pay a quarter cent extra sales tax to give teachers a raise. The board voted to place a referendum on the ballot in November for the extra sales tax.

Will it ever end? Another 800 gallons of sewage spilled into Lake Wylie tonight. This continues to be a thorn in the side of the Riverkeeper and Lake Wylie Marine Commission. A "No Swim" order is in effect until the county can test the bacteria count.

A worthy honor for NC Forest Officer Jason Crisp who was killed during a manhunt. Representatives Robert Pittenger and Patrick McHenry helped push through a vote in the US House to name a new National Forest Facility in Burke County after Crisp. The new facility is in Nebo, not far from where Crisp and his K9 Maros were both killed by a man wanted for murdering his parents.

A transgendered student in South Carolina was told he had to remove his makeup before he could take a picture to get his driver's license. 16-year old Chase Culpepper is a male who wants to live life as a female. His mother is livid that the government is telling him he has to conform to a specific image for his gender. Hear what South Carolina DMV says about the issue.

And yet another large tornado is tearing through Nebraska tonight. One little girl is dead and 16 more are critical after last night's twin twisters destroyed the town of Pilger.

Please join Kelly Franson, Sharon Smith and me for WBTV News at 11:00 tonight!
