A Statesville man was arrested Tuesday after police say he robbed three businesses in less than ten hours.

Ricky Shonnel Foote, 26, is being charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, resist, obstruct and delay, and defrauding a taxi driver.

The first robbery happened on Monday at the Family Dollar on Shelton Avenue. Police say Foote went into the store just before 10 p.m. and stole a box cutter, then returned a few minutes later with the box cutter and demanded money from the register.

The second robbery happened later that same night around 3:30 a.m. at the Sleep Inn on Turnersburg Road. There, officers said Foote walked in and handed the clerk a note stating that he had a gun and demanding money.

Police said that Foote left the first two businesses on foot. Searches were conducted at both scenes, but were unsuccessful.

The third robbery happened around 7:30 a.m. at the Red Roof Inn on East Broad Street. Officers say Foote again told the clerk he had a weapon and demanded money. The clerk gave him money from the register and Foote left the scene, this time in a taxi.

Police were able to stop the taxi a short distance away from the hotel, but when they did Foote jumped from the car and ran across the parking lot of another business, and officers gave chase and eventually caught him behind the business.

According to the official report, Foote threw money at the pursuing officers while running. That money was located and recovered.

After investigating all three robberies and reviewing surveillance video, police identified Foote as the suspect in all the incidents.

He was charged, taken to the Iredell County Detention center and placed under a $50,000 secured bond.
