Charlotte Futbol Club learns from World Cup stars

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The World Cup is underway, and a group of local soccer players are preparing for their own big tournament by keeping a close on the guys who are at the top of the sport.

The Charlotte United Futbol Club has two boys teams getting ready for the regional soccer tournament, which begins June 19th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The '97 and '98 boys gold teams are making the trip. The team says they are enjoying watching the world cup, but are also trying to be students of the game.

"You are always trying break it down and see what people in  your position do", says Patrick Kennedy, who is of Irish decent.

Team-mate Peyton Smith says he used to watch mostly as a fan, but this year is different, "I look at certain positions, and where I should be when the ball is in a certain position and when to press."
