Deputies: Man head butted police windshield, hospital wall after arrest

By Mike Piciucco

LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A Lincoln County man is facing a slew of charges after he reportedly busted out windows of two police cars and damaged a portion of a hospital after being arrested last week.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 3000-block of Beaver Dam Lane in Lincolnton around 6:30 p.m. last Monday night. When they got there they saw 21-year-old Davon Malcom Woodard throwing a rock through the front window of the home.

While being placed in handcuffs, Woodard began threatening deputies and spit in an officer's face while they were trying to calm him down, according to deputies.

Woodard was placed in the back of the patrol car, where he kicked out the rear side window, the report states.

Deputies put him into the front seat of another patrol car after they were able to get him to calm down. That's when they say Woodard began to head-butt and break the windshield of the vehicle.

Woodard was taken to the emergency room at Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln to be evaluated.

Deputies say he continued to injure himself by head-butting a wall at the hospital. He refused any medical treatment.

In total, officials say the 21-year-old racked up about $1,800 in total damage to the patrol cars and hospital wall.

Woodard has been charged with several offenses including two counts of malicious conduct by a prisoner, four misdemeanor counts of communicating threats, two counts of damage to local government property, and one count of assault on a government official.
