"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
This week we celebrate the 6th Anniversary of our WBTV SpeakOut Editorials.
Most years, we spend a lot of time addressing political issues or, perhaps, ways in which we think our school system might better serve its students.
And there were a few of those pieces.
But this year more than any other, it seems the SpeakOut topics were wide and varied.
We addressed Duke Energy's Coal Ash problem and who we think should pay for the cleanup.
We discussed the fatal shooting by a police officer and the county's overdue property revaluation.
We talked about jobs, housing, vocational training and Health Care.
We welcomed baseball back to uptown Charlotte, cheered for football at UNC Charlotte, and congratulated the Panthers and Bobcats on making the playoffs.
We saluted our veterans and remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
We paid tribute to such local notables as Julius Chambers, Dean Smith, Doug Mayes, Romare Bearden, and Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt. Kyle White.
And while we're putting the topics out there for your thought and discussion, we really want to hear what you think – about those subjects or any others.
