Airport terminal demolition underway

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Work to tear down Albany's old airport terminal is underway.

Workers are on site slowly knocking down pieces of the building that's been vacant since August.

Airport officials say the demolition should be complete by the end of July.

The area will then become a parking lot that will include about 35 short term parking spaces and additional parking for rental cars.

"Were adding sort term parking as well as a rental return lot so that people that are flying out don't have to go all the way out to the old lot to be able to drop off their car and then make a flight. They'll be able to drop it in front of the building and be that much closer to the terminal building," says Airport Director Yvette Aehle.

Part of the project will also be repaving the current long-term parking area.
