Albany police recover a safe burglars stole from a business, but the crooks got the money inside.
Workers bricked up the side window at Alligood's Meats in the 800 block of West Oglethorpe after burglars pushed the air conditioner in that window into the building early Tuesday morning.
Managers tell us the crooks took a safe, smashed a cash register, and stole money.
The empty safe was recovered later this morning.

About 1:30 Tuesday morning, a masked man used a large rock to smash the front glass door of the Save A Lot food store in the 300 block of South Slappey, just blocks from Alligood's Meats.

Police say surveillance video showed a man, wearing a shirt over his face, smash cash registers and ransack the office looking for money,  but he did not steal anything.

Managers say all money is removed from the store at night.

Police describe the burglar as 5-foot-8 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, wearing a long sleeve red shirt and black shorts.

Albany Police are also investigating a break-in at a dance studio.

About 3:30 AM, the burglar alarm sounded at Murphy's Dance Studio in the 1200 block of West Second Avenue.

Police found the rear door pried open.

Officers searched the building, but the burglar was already gone.

Owner Carol Mathis said nothing was taken today, but their shed behind the studio has been broken into recently, and some costumes taken.

Mathis said they are going to increase security around the building to better protect it.
