An injured man who was working more than 100 feet off the ground had to be rescued by Gwinnett County firefighters Monday evening.
Just before 10 p.m., crews arrived to the scene on the 2100 block of Norcross Parkway, NW in Norcross.
A worker reportedly lost his grip on a climbing peg about 125 feet up the tower. His cable grab system stopped him after he fell about 20 feet. He crashed into the tower and was knocked unconscious. When he came to, he was able to lower himself to a platform on the tower. Two of his co-workers on the ground then called 911.
The man was complaining about shoulder pain.
Firefighters tried to use a ladder truck bucket to reach the man, but it did not work. Members of the Technical Rescue Team ended up climbing up the tower and lowering the victim to safety by using a harness system.
He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville for care.
