Environmentally friendly station opens in Thomasville

A more environmentally friendly fuel source is now available in Thomasville.

On Monday the city of Thomasville, celebrated the grand opening of its first compressed natural gas fueling station.

Eventually, all the vehicles in the city fleet will be converted to natural gas instead of gasoline and diesel. Leaders hope to get the community on board to help the environment.

"I have an incentive to drive natural compressed gas as much as I can because there is such a price savings, what we found on our sanitation fleet is that in one year we saved $78,000 in fuel, which is a tremendous amount to save," said city manager Steve Sikes.

The city manager says opening the just made sense and is the way of the future. He hopes that the public will join their initiative.
