Neighbors want justice, safety after man killed on W. 42 St.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police said 48-year-old Terrance Felder was shot around 10 p.m. on Sunday night at 42nd Street and Live Oak.

Neighbors called 911 after hearing the shots and a man calling for help.

A friend said that Felder had just left a basketball playoff watch party when he was gunned down.

Neighbors heard multiple shots, and police counted several bullet casings in the intersection of Live Oak and W. 42nd streets. So far, no one has been charged with the killing.

The neighborhood is typically quiet and not accustomed to violence. Residents ran outside to help as soon as the gunshots were heard.

"It sounded like a child was hollering at first," said  Carl White. "I didn't realize."

White has lived in the neighborhood for 41 years. He said he was drifting off to sleep when he heard the shots.

"When I looked out, I heard someone screaming out," he said. "I went back and put my clothes on, and I heard another shot."

At first he thought Felder's painful screams were a child. When he realized what was going on, he called 911. Another neighbor tried to stop the bleeding, and another tried to keep Felder conscious.

"He just needed somebody to reassure him that it should be all right if he kept fighting," said Jay Green.

Felder was conscious, but he couldn't speak.

"Just keep breathing, keep fighting," said Green. "If he does his part, the paramedics will do their part, and it will be ok."

Felder died at the hospital.

Neighbors say they want justice for his life, and safety in their streets.

"I ain't going nowhere," said White. "This is my home, and I'm going to be here, and I'm going to try to do everything I can to try and eliminate this."

"You can't let the bad deeds of a few change your mind about a neighborhood," said Green. "It's the neighbors that make the neighborhood."

Neighbors say Felder did yard work around the neighborhood and was well liked.
