In order to properly jump start a car, you need a buddy help you out and good pair of jumper cables. Once your buddy comes to your rescue, make sure that you park the vehicles side by side. Make sure the vehicles are close enough to each other that the jumper cables connect on both vehicles, but that the vehicles don't touch. • The first thing you need to do is connect one side of the red jumper cable to positive terminal of the good battery.
  
• Then the other side of the red cable should be connected to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
  
• Once you're set with the red side of the cables, connect one side of the black jumper cable to the negative terminal of the good battery.
  
• This is extremely important: do NOT connect the other black cable to dead battery when performing this Charlotte car maintenance! The other end should be attached to a plain metal surface of the car with the dead battery.
