Surveillance photos released in Salisbury armed robbery

Salisbury police are looking for a man they say robbed a Walgreens Sunday night.

Investigators say around 6:40 p.m. a man wearing camouflage pants walked into the Walgreens Pharmacy on the 1500 block of E. Innes Street carrying a long gun.

They say he jumped over the counter and started grabbing pills.

The eight people in the store locked the doors to prevent other customers from coming in, then locked themselves in a safe room and called police.

It took police about a half hour to clear the building.  The Salisbury Police SWAT team responded, along with Rowan County EMS, the Salisbury Fire Department, the Rowan Sheriff's Office, and the Highway Patrol.

Captain Sheila Lingle told WBTV that when police arrived they had no way of knowing that the robber was gone until the building could be searched.

While the gunman had actually left the story, police received several calls saying he was still there and that customers were being held hostage.

The suspect was described as being a white man, stocky, a little over 6 feet tall, wearing a "Gilligan" hat, camo pants, and a gray tee shirt.

No one was hurt.

One woman was treated for anxiety.

The store opened at its regular time on Monday morning.

Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
