ROCKWELL, NC (WBTV) -

A Rowan County man was airlifted to a trauma center in Winston-Salem after emergency crews say he fell thirty feet at a rock quarry.

The incident was reported at 7:20 a.m. at Carolinas Quarries Inc. on Comoli Road near Rockwell.

Emergency crews had to use an ATV to get down to the man, stabilize him and move him out of the quarry.

An ambulance took him to an awaiting helicopter where he was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

A landing zone was set up on the property of the Sifford family near a small private airstrip across the street from the Blue Waters Pool.

The extent of the man's injuries are not known.
