STEELE CREEK, NC (WBTV) -

A driver was charged in an accident involving a motorcycle crash in the Steele Creek area that left one man dead.

The accident happened just before 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pine Harbor Road and Rainbarrel Road, near Shopton Road W.

Police say 66-year-old Lanny Lee Jenkins was driving a 2000 Honda Odyssey westbound on Pine Harbor Rd when he began to make a left turn onto Rainbarrel Rd.

Jenkins told police that he did not see any approaching vehicles until he was already turning, when he saw a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle, being driven by 31-year-old Kenneth Matthew Andrews, coming eastbound on Pine Harbor.

Investigators say Andrews tried to stop, but laid down the motorcycle and struck the Honda. They say he was wearing a helmet.

Andrews was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jenkins was uninjured.

Police say Jenkins was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle for failing to yield the right of way.

Officials say the incident is still under investigation, and ask any witnesses to call Crimestoppers at (704)334-1600.
