City of Salisbury honors Koontz Award winners

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

The City of Salisbury has announced that the Human Relations Council will honor individuals and a non-profit organization with its annual Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian Awards Banquet on Thursday, June 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the Salisbury Depot.

Honorees receiving awards will be Rowan Helping Ministries, Margaret Kluttz, William Peeples, Jr., James Stinson, Dr. Patricia Trueblood and Eleanor Qadirah.

The Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Humanitarian awards recognize a person(s) from the Salisbury-Rowan community who exemplify the ideals of Elizabeth Duncan Koontz and who has made an important contribution to improving human relations in the areas of education, employment, housing, industry, business, civic, church and or community endeavors.

These awards are named in memory of Elizabeth Duncan Koontz who was one of the organizers who re-established the Human Relations Council (formerly the Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council) in 1985.

    According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the fatal wreck happened around 2:23 a.m. on Gibbon Road and Old Statesville Road. Gibbon Road has been shut down in both directions between Old Statesville Road and Garvin Drive.
