Woman writes book about dying using only her eyes

SHELBY, NC (WBTV) -

When Lynn Hamrick was a child, the pouty little girl never did imagine she would one day tell her life story, from the perspective of someone who is dying.

23 years ago, Multiple Sclerosis slowly started stealing little bits of Lynn. Her ability to walk. Her speech. She's no longer able to use her hands.

"I was forced to give up my job and my drivers license and bathing and just things that people take for granted," Lynn said. For the last 18 months, she's lived at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.

So it may surprise you, that she just finished writing a beautiful book about her beautiful life, using only her eyes.

"There's a camera in the bottom of the computer that picks up my eyes," Lynn said as she typed on a keyboard displayed on a computer screen.

The technology allows Lynn to type by simply looking at a letter. Word by word she pieced together, Living Among the Dying. One of her missions with the book, to show people, hospice is not what you may think.

"We laugh here the nurses come in we have jokes. We laugh a lot," Lynn says Hospice has brought a very positive experience to her life.

Her strength has inspired everyone that's lucky enough to know her. Even her pastor, Rit Varriale, who helped her write the book.

"More than the physical of living among the dying, it captures the essence of Lynn's life that she really is seeking to live life to the fullest."

Summing Lynn's story up might seem impossible, but she does it best with the title of the last chapter in her book, "All's well that ends well."
