One fisherman has a whopper of a story to tell his friends.
Cullen Greer, of Houston, was off the coast of Venice, LA in the Gulf of Mexico when he hauled in a massive Warsaw Grouper near an offshore rig in over 500' of water.
The fish weighs 297 pounds. It took Greer more than half an hour to land the 6' monster, according to staff at Cyprus Cove Marina. Greer used live bait to hook his catch.
He caught the grouper on May 24.
The fish might look enormous, but it is not the largest grouper caught in Louisiana waters.
The current record weight for a Warsaw Grouper is 359.1 pounds. The Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association says that fish was wrangled back in November 2008.
