STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

A man and a teenager were arrested Sunday after a 13-year-old was shot with a shotgun in Statesville.

Dysheem Hart, 20, and Rayshawn Ivory, 18, were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm inside the city limits.

The incident began just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday when police got a call about a shooting on the 1400 block of Church Street.

Officers responded to the scene and found a 13-year-old who had been struck with shot pellets from a shotgun. Police say the boy's injuries were minor welts to the skin, and that he is expected to be okay.

Police quickly learned that two people had fired the shotgun from the backyard of a home on nearby Woodruff Street.

Officers went to the home, and after hearing people in the house yelling about the police presence – and due to the nature of the situation – established a perimeter around the house.

The Statesville Police Department's Special Response Team was then activated and began evacuating nearby homes before directing the occupants of the suspect house to come out.

After five people exited the house, investigators executed a search warrant and began interviewing numerous people.

As a result, Hart and Ivory were taken into custody. Both were taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and placed under a $25,000 bond each.
