A Statesville man was arrested after police said he kidnapped and robbed a neighbor at gunpoint in March.
Ernest Antonio Chambers, 40, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and shooting inside an occupied dwelling.
Around 3:30 a.m. on March 7, police responded to a home on the 200 block of Chambers Street after a report of a shot being fired.
The victim told police that Chambers had come to his home and accused him of breaking into his house. The victim said Chambers then pulled out a handgun and forced him to go to a home on Garfield Street.
Chambers then took the victim back to the victim's home and the two went inside.
Once inside, the victim said, Chambers again accused him of breaking into his house and fired a shot from the handgun inside the home.
The victim then gave Chambers money from his wife's purse, and Chambers left. No one in the victim's home was injured.
On May 22, officers on patrol on Newbern Avenue detected an odor of marijuana coming from a large group of people in a yard.
When the officers approached the group a man, later identified as Chambers, ran away on foot. The officers chased him and eventually apprehended him on Caldwell Street.
Chambers was arrested on the outstanding warrants connected to the March incident and given a $100,000 bond. He was given an additional bond of $2,000 for resisting officers.
He is being held in the Iredell County Detention Center.
