CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Firefighters continue to monitor a south Charlotte warehouse after it caught fire on Thursday evening.

The fire broke out at a building on the 2300 block of Toomey Avenue, near Wilmore Drive, around 7:45 p.m.

Fire investigators had crews on standby Friday morning as the building continued to smolder.

WBTV was at the scene where large flames and heavy smoke could be seen coming from the top of the building as crews fought to get the fire under control.

Firefighters say the business was empty at the time of the fire and that no one was injured, although they say a few firefighters were treated for heat and are expected to be okay.

Toomey Avenue was closed around the area of the blaze while several fire and Medic units worked the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A private company was also on site using a drone to show firefighters how they can help in damage assessment and determining fire causes.
