Two arrested for attempted robbery after citizens help victim, chase suspects

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Two people are charged with attempted armed robbery after police say they tried to rob a man near the NAPA store on N. Tryon Street.

Ernest Dorsett, 16, and Jason Currington, 19, are charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery, according to Charlotte police.

The incident was reported on the 5900 block of North Tryon Street around 3 a.m.

The victim told police he was walking home from a friend's house when he was approached by two suspects who demanded money before one of the suspects threatened him with a knife.  

The victim ran and flagged down a car occupied by two men who got out of the vehicle and began to chase the suspects.  

The men were able to give a detailed description of the suspects and their direction of travel to police who responded to the armed robbery incident.

Officers located the suspects a short time later on N. Tryon Street and Arrowhead Drive, according to the news release.

The victim positively identified Ernest Dorsett and Jason Currington as the two suspects who attempted to rob him.

They were transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail.
