HARRISBURG, NC (WBTV) -

Several homes were evacuated Monday after an item officials say was designed to look like an explosive was found at a Harrisburg neighborhood pool.

The item was found at a pool on Rocky River Crossing Road near Roberta Road in the Rocky River Crossing subdivision around noon, according to officials.

Witnesses say it was made of aluminum foil and had some type of phone attached to it.

The Cabarrus County Bomb Squad was called to the scene, and five homes on nearby Creek View Court were evacuated to a temporary evacuation site at the Harrisburg Fire Station on Morehead Road.

Just after 3:30 p.m., officials confirmed to WBTV that the device was a "hoax," designed to look like an explosive.

As a precaution, the device was then detonated.

Investigators say no one was in any danger.

Officials say it's unclear who put the device near the pool. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
